L’Malouma Said is a politician and activist from Mauritania. In 2018, she received the International Women of Courage Award from the U.S Department of State.

                                     

1. Life

L’Malouma Said was born a slave in Boutilmitt, Mauritania. She was a leader in the El Hor Movement for the liberation of Haratines in Mauritania. She helped to start the Mauritanian anti-slavery organization S.O.S. Esclaves. She is married to Boubacar Messaoud, the current leader of S.O.S. Esclaves.

She was elected to the National Assembly of the Parliament of Mauritania in 2006 and 2013.
