Herbert Vaughn Orvis was an American football defensive tackle. He played for the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Colts in a ten-year career that lasted from 1972 to 1981 in the National Football League.

Orvis played college football at the University of Colorado. He was born in Petoskey, Michigan.

Orvis was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Lions, playing for five years with that team. From 1978-81, he played for the Colts.

Orvis was chosen to be honored into the College Football Hall of Fame on January 8, 2015.

Orvis died on August 14, 2020 in Goodyear, Arizona at the age of 73.
